Run by owner Robert Fairs, Londo is a relaxed Christchurch spot that gives a genuine taste of Canterbury and is well worth a visit. The menu is small, changes with the seasons and focuses on local produce done well without any fuss. It’s a laid-back space where you can sit at the bar, watch the chefs cook and chat while your food comes together, which adds to the easy, welcoming feel. Standout dishes include raw fish in a tomato dashi, especially good with sourdough for soaking up the sauce and a rich pappardelle with mushroom XO and Parmigiano Reggiano where simple ingredients are lifted by really good seasoning and depth of flavour. The drinks’ list is thoughtful rather than big with a strong focus on North Canterbury wines that suit the food, alongside seriously impressive cocktails. Nothing here is overcomplicated, just honest and seasonal cooking that’s full of flavour and very easy to enjoy.
