Textarea
Perched on the rugged edge of Piha, Aryeh is deeply shaped by its environment where native bush meets black sand and the raw coastline sets the tone for everything that follows. Named after the Aramaic word for lion and inspired by Lion Rock, it carries a quiet strength and a strong sense of place. Chef Lucas Parkinson leads the kitchen with a philosophy rooted in sustainability, collaboration and seasonality. Working closely with local fishers, growers and foragers, he builds a menu that shifts constantly with the landscape, reflecting both the coastline and the forest that frames the restaurant. His style is considered and expressive, always aiming to let the ingredients speak first. The menu balances precision and creativity. Line-caught Leigh fish ceviche with cuttlefish ink rice shard, pickled Northland daikon and rice wine gel shows a light, playful touch, while 55-day aged grass-fed Mapari beef with celeriac gravy and pinot noir vinegar gel brings deeper, more grounded flavour. Rather than feeling like a traditional dining room, Aryeh reads as an extension of its surroundings – calm, connected and unforced. It’s a place where food is shaped by the land, and where each plate carries a clear sense of origin and intent.
