In a tiny house on a city terrace a magical experience unfolds. A three-course, trust-the-chef menu uses outstanding local and seasonal produce to seduce the senses. The room is intimate and arranged to maximise the space with views through to the kitchen, low, warm lighting, elegant glassware and a chilled, jazzy soundtrack to set the mood. We dined on kingfish with a delicate avocado crème, capers, dill, lemon, rocket and baby turnips thinly sliced to provide an earthy crunch. Slick service next brought aged-beef rump cap to the table. It was deliciously arranged in a luxurious artichoke purée with a chard salad cooked in red wine with currants and served cold – the perfect cut-through. But it was chef Nikita Kuschke’s steamed pudding that proved the star. Tart, bitter Seville mandarins in a soft fluffy pudding with a caramelised top in a bath of cold, rich custardy goodness.
