In a city with a lack of authentic French restaurants, Ben Bayly’s fills the gap. In this stunning dining room that boasts elements of a traditional French brasserie and some of the best views of the Waitematā, he has nailed the cuisine, the beverage offering and the relaxed but professional service. The kitchen, headed by Frenchman Gilles Papst, turns out beautifully presented classics reimagined in a slightly cleaner, contemporary way. The boeuf bourguignon of wagyu cheek with leek vinaigrette is lighter and fresher, while retaining the essence of the original; the apricot tart is an innovative rendition with buckwheat pastry and lemon verbena sorbet alongside. The wine list boasts an impressive French and New Zealand selection across all price points, and with excellent guidance from the sommelier, you can say ‘oui’ to something new and interesting. Go for a casual night out or a special occasion. You won’t be disappointed. Check website for opening hours MAINS: $37-$55
