This is the type of restaurant every self-respecting city needs. Have visitors coming to town and not sure of their eating requirements? This is the place to go; everyone will find a dish they enjoy in this relaxed, sophisticated environment. Josh and Helen Emett have created a restaurant that should stand the test of time with a culinary team serving traditional fare where the classic skills of French cooking are to the fore. Service is friendly and unobtrusive. The bouillabaisse, with its firm yet plump seafood nestling in a deep-flavoured broth, was excellent. An extensive wine list means you’ll be spoilt for choice but well-guided by the expertise of a sommelier. This is a grown-ups restaurant that may not be one for weekly visits, but it should be on your list for a special occasion or to remind you why some dishes and styles of service have become classics.
