Owned by hospitality luminaries Sid and Chand Sahrawat, this trendy, modern Indian hotspot promises fun and flavour in a villa on the fringes of the heaving Ponsonby strip. Cool, chills-ville music and soft lighting set the ambience in the rather compact dining room and the friendly, smooth service makes for a warm welcome. A decent drinks list (including a happy-hour offering) gets proceedings off to a good start and the aromas from the wood-fired tandoor are guaranteed to pique the appetite. The Kurobuta pork skewers with mustard sauce and crispy shallots on eggplant purée were excellently cooked, as tender and juicy as the wagyu beef with Sichuan pepper and cabbage. We highly recommend you try the goat’s cheese kulcha: irresistible. Dessert of seared pineapple with toasted brioche and a smoky, whiskey butterscotch sauce was an interesting combination of taste and texture served to us by the sous chef – a nice personal touch.
