Hugo’s Bistro

Textarea
Popular with time-poor professionals who enjoy being able to nip in for a quick breakfast, lunch and dinner – sometimes all three in a single day – this inner-city restaurant has a loyal following. Floor staff greet many by name and occasional diners are welcomed just as warmly and offered something from a well-curated drinks list that covers all the bases with offerings from Aotearoa and around the world. Chef Alex Llewellyn deftly dishes up a menu light on fluff and full of flavour. His wapiti tartare and beetroot with crispy leeks could turn a vegetarian into a carnivore while his deep-fried mussel fritters with hot sauce are fire – especially when paired with a crisp chablis. But it’s Alex’s way with fish that has everyone talking: red snapper served with an Italian-style olive oil and parsley sauce was sublime. Superb hospitality from Poi Eruera – Cuisine Good Food Awards 2023/2024 recipient of the Kenwood Personality of the Year – keeps the crowd coming back for more. Poi rocks.
