The Runholder
Textarea
Bringing together the best of Wairarapa’s fresh produce, fine wines and celebrated gin, The Runholder offers a true taste of the region under one roof. Settle in for a relaxed winery lunch or a cosy dinner with a menu spanning charcoal-grilled seafood, prime cuts and generous à la carte plates that showcase the bounty of local produce. All plates are thoughtfully paired with The Runholder’s wine and gin. Rooted in Martinborough’s farming heritage and the land that surrounds it, Offering elevated vineyard dining with sweeping views and a warm, inviting dining room that feels cosy even on the coldest nights. Overseen by Erin Lawton-McKenzie, the service is faultless, while head chef Raquel (Rocky) Regis delivers rustic yet refined dishes that speak to the region’s identity. Standouts include succulent Wairarapa lamb ribs with harissa, pearl barley tabbouleh and sheep’s milk labneh. Desserts are polished and thoughtful, with the Greytown honey cake and burnt honeycomb a highlight. Paired with wines from Te Kairanga and Martinborough Vineyards, it’s a destination well worth planning a visit to.
