IN BRIEF Modern pan-Asian mastery in a refined setting

Textarea
Located in what was once the main dining area of The French Café, this pan-Asian destination may be more casual in nature but it’s all relative because head chef Tommy Hope’s food is nothing but. His plating style is artful and refined and while it’s suggested guests share plates it’s happily not compulsory. Sommelier Alex Shchepetkin has crafted a wine list that is exceptional in quality and breadth so alongside a carefully curated cocktail list there’s no shortage of intriguing options. Do get the snacks: the beef rendang pie is a bite full of crisp puff pastry and richly spiced filling; arancini with gochujang and black truffle are flavoursome with light chilli balanced against earthy truffle. The excellence continues with our mains of duck and wagyu bavette – succulent and served with sauces that are harmonious and interesting. The dry-aged raw slices of kingfish are sensational, too, and surprising with the addition of makrut ice cream among the coconut and chilli jam. Don’t miss the desserts; they’re a total delight.
