Step into Origine and you might just feel transported to a lively French brasserie, complete with stunning views of Waitematā Harbour. It’s the perfect setting to unwind, especially as the sun sets over Tāmaki Makaurau. Co-owner and general manager Lucile Fortuna – who hails from Lyon, the culinary heart of France – infuses the restaurant with her rich hospitality background alongside co-owners Chris Martin and Ben and Cara Bayly. The menu is an exciting nod to French cuisine that celebrates the passionate growers and producers across Aotearoa, but don’t expect a stuffy service, as at Origine they embrace a warm, casual Kiwi vibe. Tartare made from wild-shot venison with a tarragon mayo and a crispy agria wafer is sublime, kingfish with spanner crab, pear and buttermilk dressing, basil sorbet and avocado is supreme and the must-have bourguignon with potato purée, homemade mustard, red wine jus and buttered leeks is, you guessed it, magnifique! The stunning bar with an extensive drinks list is also a very good reason to visit. Origine has quickly become a cornerstone of French dining in Auckland and you’ll want to visit again and again to experience the evolving menu and warm hospitality.
