A culinary gem that has been delighting diners since 2005 and a constant recommendation in our Cuisine Good Food Guide. Founded by Kevin and Jane Hopgood, this bistro-style restaurant marries modern, seasonally-inspired dishes with a relaxed atmosphere, all set within the beautifully restored heritage premises of the former Dalgety & Company Ltd Building. Co-owner and chef Kevin Hopgood, originally from London and a veteran of renowned kitchens like Le Gavroche, emphasises the philosophy of "simple food done well". With a commitment to sourcing organic vegetables from local farmers, the menu celebrates the best of the Nelson region's produce and wines. We loved the delicate pāua dumplings with XO butter and coriander, the classic twice-baked cheese soufflé paired with beets and walnuts is not to be missed and a comforting ricotta gnocchi with confit yolk and pecorino is outstanding. For dessert, treacle pudding with miso and milk ice cream offers a perfect finish. A dining experience that highlights the essence of local flavours in a warm, inviting setting.
