IN BRIEF Playful eating in good-vibe surrounds

Textarea
What's not to like about somewhere central that is open from late morning until late at night and that serves up plate after delicious sharing plate of taste-driven food that's been flamed, charred and pulled smouldering from the fire, décor that features colourful bricks and tiles, a toe-tapping playlist and an on-trend gin menu attracting an eclectic crowd of the well-travelled and the curious to sample the Andalusian-inspired cuisine? Flavour-bomb starters of anchovy and tomato tostada and tuna crudo with piquillo pepper set the scene, while the octopus with ensalada rusa and anchovy will compete for your attention. Our favourite was the simply sensational scampi bomba rice. The menu is as bright and bold as the high-energy environment and a natural partner to a drinks list that embraces sherries and vermouths, a sumptuous array of Spanish wines and a serious complement of locally grown Spanish varietals. Chef Jo Pearson knows her stuff and is to be lauded for bringing her love of all things Iberian to Kiwi diners. Check website for opening hours MAINS: $26-$85
