Central Fire Station Bistro

Central-fire-Station

IN BRIEF Hot stuff in a former fire station

Textarea
An eclectic mix of art deco romanticism in the dining room and a blend of French and Italian cuisine meld in this totally accessible experience by an innovative Kiwi chef at the top of his game. Sam Clark and co-owner Florencia Menehem have mastered the art of getting folk through the doors of this tastefully preserved heritage building and beguiling them with a menu that presents outstanding fresh, seasonal food and, we should add, a well-curated drinks list that includes plenty of by-the-glass options. You could begin with beetroot stracciatella with shiso and sunflower or confit duck leg with swede and walnut before moving on to a gloriously unctuous gnocchi with gorgonzola and pinenut agrodolce or ‘nduja-stuffed pork fillet with golden raisin relish. An option well worth sharing is the beautiful braised beef short rib with pickled daikon and gremolata which shows Sam’s technical skills to the max. This is clever, considered cooking presented by knowledgeable staff with a passion for celebrating the local. Check website for opening hours MAINS: $44-$48
